we're
weallly weal, man:
For help on Real Media - you may as well go
directly to their website..>>
Undercurrents has been using the Real Media
Video format for over a year, so it's obviously got something going
for it. The major advantage is that loads of people have it installed
on their computers so random browsers of your Internet site are
likely to be able to view it. You can click it and be viewing it
immediately, which is nice. The file sizes are really quite small
which helps if you haven't got thousands of dollars for special
server space.
The disadvantages are that for the most part
it looks like shite and sounds even worse. It also involves installing
a program on your computer which messes with your file settings
and registry, hogs your system's resources unnecessarily and spies
on you when you browse the Internet sending information on what
your are doing back to Real central! [Not that you should really
worry about such things - but still it's a bit of a cheek].
So with that out of the way here are some options
for installing a Real Player on your machine. You can get the free
download version from here.
You can also investigate getting a better version
that won't try to keep updating itself and getting you to pay money.
Anything from Real 7 Plus onwards is a winner. See if you can get
hold of a copy. One way of doing this is actually paying Real.com
for a copy. That's one solution but you may be able to get cracking
in other ways. Well that's it - until next time astalavista
baby!
DivX
Video:
For installation details click
here -
DivX is a video format which uses a hugely
powerful compression technique. Uncompressed files are normally
way too bog to download from the internet. Real media files are
smaller but crap. But DivX can produce Video at 25fps at about the
same filesize as a CD quality Mp3! That's pretty amazing really
when you consider that divX files contain image information as well.
And let's face it Mp3's were pretty amazing in the first place.
You can read slightly more technical explinations
else where but what it essentially does for us us to take our large
AVI files that we can export out or our Video editing programs and
gives you a sliding scale option to either make them
a) much, much smaller or
b) so darn small that they practically don't exist.[in video terms
that is - it's still a hefty download on a dial up!]
The smallest we are going to make them is a
bit over a Megabyte a Minute, So that's about 4.5 meg for a 3 minute
feature.
DivX is a fully free, non-corporate format.
It is the internet at it's best. Ethically, it seems like the best
option for Video on the Internet.
WHAT YOU
NEED:
a) a DivX Download called a Codec - for pc
b) a Video Player - Once you have the Codec
installed, Windows Media Player will work, so will Real Player.
if you don't have these or your version is incompatable the don't
download either of those 10,000 K players. You can download a free
player which is only 600K and works just fine - from here -
c) an Mp3 download installed on your machine - click
here for more info -
For Installation details for the DivX download
and your DivX player - click here -

How
to install the Mp3 codec:
If you're not on the case with Mp3's then you're
really missing out on a great way of keeping and exchanging music
with your mates. We'll feature audio reports in Mp3 format here
and you also need it to view DivX features.
You can get good detailed help on how to do
this from the following web site- click here -
