Beyond
Protest:
Protests are often very effective at highlighting problems - but
they are limited in the extent that they can communicate the positive
alternatives that are available. It is or intention to promote features
showing low impact lifestyles and positive social programs. These
features will be a quick and effective counter to the common truism
that "there is no alternative".
We invite Independent film makers including
the Undercurrents family to take up this opportunity offered by
the internet. The possibility to get really positive programming
out there without the sugar coating of sensationalism. These films
don't have to be about third world countries, they probably won't
involve large-scale street parties or global days of action but
for those looking for an alternative they will be some of the most
interesting features on the internet.
Features on positive community projects will
try to involve the Internet user in environmental and social justice
issues by focusing on the local rather the global. We'll follow
the path of the issues from the frontline friction to the possible
projects that may help. We'll offer possible courses of action.
We want to remove the impersonal and passive nature of news presentation.
We'd like to say here's a problem - here's what some people are
doing about it - and here's what you can do to help.

Earthdream 2001: -
Operation Alchemy is the performance project by Earthdream 2001
- a wide collective of performers, free party people, musicians
and visual artists. It's a party protest tour with a lot of energy.
The positive focus of this tour is to raise awareness of the environmental
destruction being caused by the nuclear power industry and even
more importantly, sustainable power resources.
Last year many of the vehicles were converted
to run on Used Vegetable Oil. This year Earthdream 2001 will be
touring Europe with a kick-ass soundsystem and Mad-Max Mashup hip-hop
Road show. |
