The BNDG met during a six month period from the end of 2001 and arrived at proposals to research Broadband Networks and build a pilot network in the Lewisham and Greenwich area of South East London.

Its area of focus echos that of DeptfordX Festival footprint, from Greenwich up river to the Lewisham borders, round Deptford centre through New Cross Gate and back across MillBrook via St Johns.

It was proposed that Constituents of the area would be interviewed to determine their awareness of and interest in Community Area Networks, their use of computers and the internet for work, education and recreation and to gauge the changing requirements of the local population.

Specific contact was to be made with arts, community and educational institutions to invite their collaboration and support for further community network development and to work together to identify local resources and appeal for funds.

Both the research and pilot network component were conducted successfully. Please read the report and review the actions that have followed.
